Ajah joins IATI as its latest member

  • Sept. 7, 2020

Canadian social enterprise Ajah has become the latest member of the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI).

Ajah provides open data tools and services for the nonprofit sector and is the 96th organisation to join IATI. IATI’s diverse membership includes governments, multilaterals, civil society and private sector organisations who are committed to improving the transparency of development and humanitarian resources.

Ajah decided to join IATI following their involvement in data standard projects for over 10 years. Ajah has been involved in the IATI community since 2013, when they co-hosted Montreal’s first IATI event. They work with nonprofits on developing data and knowledge infrastructure, including the promotion, adoption, and use of data standards, including the IATI Standard, to ensure data is accessible, interoperable and reusable.

IATI’s diverse membership includes governments, multilaterals, civil society and private sector organisations who are committed to improving the transparency of development and humanitarian resources.

"We believe that access to information is a necessary condition for improving the effectiveness of work in the nonprofit sectors, domestically and internationally"

Ajah’s Managing Director, Jesse Bourns said: “We believe that access to information is a necessary condition for improving the effectiveness of work in the nonprofit sectors, domestically and internationally. "We are involved in many standards projects, with IATI being one of the most important. Becoming a member was long overdue, as we already promote the initiative to the organisations and funders we work with, including helping some larger philanthropic funders adopt the IATI Standard”.

Ajah plans to continue raising awareness of IATI in the nonprofit sector and participating in the initiative’s events (online or in-person). As a member of IATI, Ajah will play an essential role in funding and governing the initiative and will be invited to join IATI’s annual Members’ Assembly, to be held virtually in 2020 on 1-2 December.
