How to create your IATI organisation identifier

Each organisation needs an identifier to register with IATI, which will be checked and approved by the IATI Secretariat. Follow the steps below to ensure your IATI organisation identifier (also known as your IATI "org ID") is valid and correctly formatted.

1. Understand the structure

Your IATI organisation identifier consists of two parts, separated by a hyphen:

1. Registration agency code – based on the agency your organisation is registered with.
2. Registration number – the number assigned to your organisation by that agency.

2. Identify your registration agency

The first part of your identifier is your organisation’s registration agency code.

• Visit org-id.guide to check if your registration agency is listed.
• If listed, use the appropriate agency code from the site.
• If your registration agency is not listed, please contact us for guidance.

Examples of registration agencies:

• Companies House (UK) – Code: GB-COH
• Tanzania Revenue Authority (Tanzania) – Code: TZ-TRA

3. Find your registration number

The second part of your identifier is your registration number, assigned by your registration agency.

• This number is typically found on your organisation’s official registration certificate.
• Combine it with your agency code using a hyphen (-).

Examples:

• UK example: GB-COH-06368740
  (Where GB-COH is the agency code, and 06368740 is the Companies House registration number)
  
• Tanzania example: TZ-TRA-100-200-300
  (Where TZ-TRA is the agency code, and 100-200-300 is the Taxpayer Identification Number)

Please note:

• If your registration number contains any of the following symbols: /, &, |, or ?, replace them with a hyphen (-).
• Do not begin or end your identifier with a blank space or new line.

Verifying your IATI organisation identifier

Your identifer will be checked by the IATI Secretariat after you register your organisation as an IATI publisher. If your registration agency does not maintain a public list of registered entities, we may ask you to send documentation (e.g. a certificate or official contract), which shows your registration number.
