Publishing tools and services to create your IATI data files
There are tools and services to help you create and publish your IATI XML files. This page summarises the different options to help you choose the best ones for your organisation.
Various tools and services are available to help you create and publish IATI data. These offer different levels of support and automation. Some are free; others are paid for. Some are designed for small organisations with only a few activities; others can handle high volumes of data and can be integrated into your current system e.g. the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Nonprofit Accelerator + IATI Add On.
Tools and services
IATI Publishing Tool
IATI has now introduced it's own free to use Publishing Tool - IATI Publisher Tool.
IATI Publisher will enable organisations to publish their data on development and humanitarian activities according to the XML format required by the IATI Standard. The new tool aims to be simple and intuitive, making publishing easier for organisations and have a range of benefits for users. IATI Publisher is:
- Free to use
- Provides clear explanations of data fields in the IATI Standard and links to useful guidance
- Enables data to be provided by completing online forms or via CSV file using its Bulk Upload feature
- Runs automatic checks (via the IATI Validator) for errors before publishing your data
IATI Publisher has been built to support organisations that want to publish data on a limited number of development and humanitarian activities. An ‘activity’ is an individual project or another unit of development and humanitarian work, which is determined by the organisation that is publishing the data. Organisations who publish a limited number of activities tend to represent small and medium sized organisations.
We encourage organisations who are new to IATI to start using IATI Publisher now. The process of publishing IATI data can be complex and by using IATI Publisher, your organisation will be guided through all the steps you need to publish your first set of data.

Please note, that each tool or service will require a level of set up to connect to your internal system. Validation and automatic publishing may not be built in.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Nonprofit Accelerator + IATI Add On
Key Facts: Solution free with Microsoft
The Dynamics 365 nonprofit accelerator and Common Data Model for Nonprofits offer a fully managed and Microsoft supported solution for constituent management, fundraising, awards, program delivery, and impact tracking.
The accelerator includes an optional IATI Add On that enables organizations to record their fundraising and programmatic activities according to the IATI Organisational and Activity Standards, automatically sync IATI non-embedded code lists with the nonprofit accelerator and generate IATI Organisation and Activity XML files.
See the accelerator landing page and the latest IATI user guide for more information.
CoVE - Convert, Validate, Explore
CoVE is a web-based tool that can be used to convert spreadsheets (.xlsx and .ods) to IATI XML. Additionally, IATI XML can be transformed into spreadsheets with CoVE. In doing so, CoVE will also validate data against the IATI schema, plus check compliance with codelists and rulesets. CoVE also supports both the organisation and activity standard. Spreadsheet templates are provided to help users get started.
Open Data Services Cooperative have extensive experience of both IATI and other data standards, and have developed IATI CoVE to assist clients publishing IATI data. CoVE is publicly available to use for free. Open Data Services offer paid support and advice on a consultancy basis.
