State of the Data Webinar 2: How AI is Unlocking the Potential of IATI Data?
Explore three live examples of how AI tools are being used to improve data quality, increase accessibility, and unlock insights across the development and humanitarian sectors:
- BMZ’s ChecKI Tool
Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) will share how they are using an AI-powered application—ChecKI—to assess and strengthen the quality of development project descriptions. This use case focuses on improving how data is produced and the important role of freetext in enhancing IATI reporting. It also highlights the need to support professionals closest to the data to make their reporting stronger and more useful. - AidInsights
This new platform uses AI to make IATI data more accessible to non-technical users. AidInsights enables people to ask natural-language questions like “Who funds agricultural development in East Africa?” or “How many active projects are there in women’s economic empowerment in the Philippines?”—and receive clear, visual results. This demo will show how AI can make IATI data more intuitive and actionable.
- DevExplorer (FCDO + Frontier Tech Hub)
Developed as a pilot by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Frontier Tech Hub, DevExplorer uses large language models to help international development professionals generate insights from IATI data. The demo will show how DevExplorer uses linked documents to build summaries of outcomes across projects—for example, synthesising findings from multiple food security programmes in Yemen.

As AI opens new possibilities for data use, this webinar will explore what these innovations mean for IATI’s future. We’ll ask:
- What role should IATI play—as a catalyst or supporter—in helping others unlock insights and foster cooperation through data?
Whether you're a publisher, policymaker, researcher or data user, your input will help shape IATI’s approach in this fast-evolving space.
