Surge in new membership of IATI in early 2023

The International Aid Transparency Initiative is delighted to welcome CanWach, Emergentally, the Government of Niger and the Media Foundation for West Africa as its first new members to join in 2023. These four new members join organisations from around the world in making a clear public commitment to improving the transparency of international development and humanitarian resources.

CanWach, the Canadian Partnership for Women and Children's Health has used IATI data in its CanWaCH Project Explorer and presented this work at the IATI Community Exchange in March. Emergentally has worked with the Government of Liberia to develop the Liberia Project Dashboard, which automatically updates financial data from IATI. Its Managing Director Mark Brough brings a wealth of expertise to IATI as a member, having been involved in the initiative for over ten years.

The Government of Niger decided to join over 30 other partner country governments that are already members of IATI after attending IATI’s West and Central Africa Workshop in June 2022. Delegates at that meeting received in-depth training on ways of using IATI data to inform the planning, budgeting, and coordination of the country’s development resources.

Upon confirming their new membership, Niger joined IATI’s annual Members’ Assembly for the first time, attending the event in person at UN City, Copenhagen last month. Also joining for the first time as members were the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) a civil society organisation which works to promote the rights of the media and human rights defenders, and brings the voice of its network of national partner organisations from all 16 countries in West Africa.
