IATI’s Secretariat delivered training on how to access and analyse IATI data to journalists from Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Kenya and Zimbabwe through a virtual training session on 7 October 2021.
Journalists learned how to access IATI data on development and humanitarian activities from over 1300 organisations.
IATI data can be accessed through a range of online tools, including d-portal and Country Development Finance Data, and participants were shown how to select the tool that meets their specific data needs.
Thanks much, it was an eye opening experience https://t.co/KDXZ3AnZkA

To inform their investigations and stories, the journalists received training on how to access and analyse IATI data based on use cases relevant to their own countries and areas of interest. These use cases included finding data on development and humanitarian activities funded from external sources, along with detailed information on which organisations are providing funds, who is responsible for implementation, which sectors are being targeted by these activities, and much more.
To inform their investigations and stories, the journalists were shown how to access and analyse IATI data based use cases relevant to their own countries and areas of interest.
The participants learned that they could easily access information to help them compare levels of resources committed by development partners with resources actually received, and the results that were achieved through the funded activities. Data on the use of funds by national governments was also of interest to the journalists who could use it to assess whether resources received were being used for the intended purposes. The journalists were keen to explore the data further and use it in their work to encourage accountability of both development partners and governments.
