The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have become the latest organisation to join IATI and signal their intention to publish open data on their development activities to the IATI standard.
Gates Foundation CEO, Jeff Raikes, writes on their Impatient Optimist blog:
“Our commitment to IATI is one of a number of steps we are taking to make information about the foundation more available … In the meantime, we are continuing to work with partners in the development and philanthropic communities to understand better how this kind of data can be made more useful.”
The Foundation will publish an Implementation Schedule, setting out their timetable for publishing IATI data, by the end of 2013, and will join the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation in taking steps towards greater transparency in private philanthropy through IATI.
