The bank has shared data on 105 development activities and 762 financial transactions, spanning from 2014 to the present. The publication provides a transparent view of FONPLATA’s work of financing small- and medium-sized public sector projects including infrastructure, social development, environmental resilience, and cross-border integration.

By publishing its data to IATI, FONPLATA says it aims to increase the visibility and impact of its operations and support more effective coordination with partners across the region.

"Publishing detailed information on the projects we finance allows us to align with best practices in development cooperation” — Luciana Botafogo, Executive President of FONPLATA

Luciana Botafogo, Executive President of FONPLATA, said: “By joining the international IATI initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to transparency, accountability, and multilateral cooperation.

"Publishing detailed information on the projects we finance allows us to align with best practices in development cooperation”.

FONPLATA’s data includes information on project locations, sectors, and financial flows (including commitments and disbursements). By making this information publicly available, FONPLATA hopes it will become a valuable resource for its member countries, partners, and the wider development community. Internally, the bank said it expects the IATI Standard to strengthen its own monitoring, evaluation, and strategic planning.

“This open and standardised platform facilitates access to key data, strengthens the trust of our partners and beneficiaries, and promotes greater efficiency in project implementation", Luciana Botafogo said.

The Value of IATI for Development Banks

FONPLATA’s engagement reflects the growing value that development finance institutions (DFIs) recognise in IATI. By publishing to a shared, open standard, DFIs can:

  • Increase visibility and public trust by sharing structured data that feeds into public dashboards, transparency portals, and accountability tools

  • Demonstrate leadership and accountability by aligning with international best practices and contributing to evolving global transparency norms

  • Leverage data for smarter financing decisions, from risk analysis and portfolio management to aligning with partner country priorities

  • Streamline reporting by using a single pipeline to meet multiple internal and international data needs

While aligning internal systems to the IATI Standard involved complex processes, the FONPLATA said that strong internal coordination and technical support from the IATI Secretariat helped ease the transition. The bank now plans to use comparative IATI data as input into its upcoming institutional strategy and corporate results framework.
