IATI launched its latest results monitoring report, showing that the initiative surpassed its key target for data use. The IATI Strategic Plan Results Monitoring Report 2023 found that 19 partner country governments systematically used IATI data for decision-making, surpassing the target of 14.

The 2023 monitoring exercise marks the fourth annual review of the IATI Strategic Plan and its associated Results Framework, providing a detailed analysis of the progress we made, and lessons we learned.

“In 2023, IATI strengthened its role in fostering transparency and enabling strategic decision-making among partner countries – with 19 governments systematically using IATI data.”

As IATI enters the final year of its 2020-2025 strategic plan, this report is a key tool for reflecting on past achievements and challenges, helping to shape the future strategy for 2026-2030.

Key Insights

The report assesses progress IATI has made across 4 key metrics:

  • Improving quality of data

In 2023, data quality improved overall, with 20.3% of publishers making progress, compared to 2022. Notably, nearly half (48.7%) of publishers with a reported annual spend between USD 100 million and USD 1 billion demonstrated improved timeliness, while 43.6% made improvements to data comprehensiveness compared to the previous reporting period.
  • Promoting systematic use of IATI data

In 2023, IATI strengthened its role in fostering transparency and enabling strategic decision-making among partner countries – with 19 governments systematically using IATI data. Additionally, 29 active tools access the Datastore, and there is high engagement on platforms like d-Portal, Datastore Search, and the Country Development Finance Data tool.
  • Strengthening the standard by consolidating technical core

Updates to the IATI Standard in 2023 have made it more robust and adaptable, catering to the specific needs of various new user groups – for example, humanitarian stakeholders, Development Finance Institutions, and UN system entities. This flexibility has helped to expand the number of publishers, and the Standard’s adaptability to diverse requirements.
  • Reinvigorating the community of IATI publishers and members

In 2023, IATI’s membership continues to grow steadily, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa, but with slower progress in Latin America, the Middle East and South Asia, signalling a need for targeted outreach.
