In 2017, IATI members launched a Data Use Fund to promote the systemic use of IATI data, with an initial endowment of $250,000 USD. The Fund, which was replenished in 2019, is overseen by a multi-stakeholder group of IATI community members, who make up the Data Use Working Group (formerly the IATI Data Use Task Force).
IATI members launched a Data Use Fund to promote the systemic use of IATI data, with an initial endowment of $250,000 USD.
Projects are designed by the Working Group with the aim of increasing the use of IATI data worldwide, and are developed according to five strategic objectives:
- Raise awareness of IATI as a source of aid and humanitarian data and develop a common understanding of the priority needs of different user groups.
- Improve data quality in order to facilitate use, and assure users of its reliability, including through the development of feedback mechanisms between data publishers and users.
- Improve existing tools and develop new, user-friendly tools that help multiple actors access and use IATI data.
- Improve guidance, training and support for different user groups.
- Promote integration of IATI data into partner country aid systems and processes.
Projects designed by the Data Use Working Group, encourage innovative thinking alongside practical solutions that help people to understand and use IATI data. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the Fund’s official administrator and works with the Data Use Working Group to issue advertisements, following UNDP procurement guidelines. During each contracting period, proposals are welcomed from any organisation who has the capacity and expertise to undertake work as outlined in the specific terms of reference for the project.
